The Helix in DCU came alive with an explosion of sustainable glamour this month for the Junk Kouture World Final. Among the participants were teams from Ireland, the UK, France, Italy, the US and the UAE. With eye popping designs made from every conceivable material, this long standing festival of upcycled creativity really lived up to its reputation.

Another Avenue have a long standing partnership with Junk Kouture and produced the stage show, constructing all the screen assets that were played in on the night. With 80 acts throughout the night, this is a huge undertaking but one we enjoy every time. To get every element of music, graphics, staging and lighting played in in perfect sync with the artists catwalk performance takes a lot of pre-production effort and experience but when the shows go so well, every bit of preparation is worth it.

This years winner of World Designer of the Year was Clodagh Ramsey from Wilson’s Hospital School in Co. Westmeath with her stunning design ‘Aquacultural’. Incorporating over 2000 mussel shells into her sculptural design, Clodagh sought to highlight the importance of sustainable aquaculture as a means of food production, as well as gender equality in fashion.
