Known for its intimate atmosphere, diverse lineup, and strong community spirit, this year’s Forest Fest festival was a testament to Ireland’s vibrant cultural scene.
The musical lineup featured a mix of renowned Irish artists, international acts, and promising newcomers, ensuring that there was something for everyone.
Our job was camera relay to the screens on the main stage, a job essential to the overall atmosphere of the festival. We provided quality camerawork from 5 positions, all mixed live by our director side of stage. Although the work is intense and the days are long, all the crew had a great weekend and are already looking forward to next years festival. Below is a rundown of some of our highlights from the weekend.
Day 1
A mainstay of the Irish festival scene, The Stunning still bring the rock and roll spectacle. They really got the crowd moving with absolute belters like Romeo’s on Fire and the timeless Brewing up a Storm.
We got a more subdued performance than expected but very interesting and theatrical from the Dexy’s crew. It was a privilege to hear Come on Eileen and Geno live and Kevin Roland continues to show his skill as a frontman and entertainer.
The Divine Comedy provided a touch of class and whimsy from frontman Neil Hannon. A charismatic performer, he gave our camera crew a real challenge when he decided to perform a whole song lying flat on his back in front of the stage monitors! Great to se an Irish act headlining.
Day 2
Day 2 was a day full of highlights with every act turning it on at the main stage. Irish singing legend Jack L got the crowd going with some amazing call and response, then brought the house down with his powerful Georgie Boy.
EMF, the ‘original brave ravers’, brought some serious 90’s dance energy with an upbeat set full of classics and really inventive covers.
Ocean Colour Scene provided what seemed to be an almost religious experience for the punters in Emo – from the raucous ‘Day we caught the Train’ to the exquisite ‘Blown Away’, this was a gem of a set.
The wild and psychedelic audio visual assault of King Kong Company set the field on fire with Bobby Fingers putting his name in the ring for the most aggressively entertaining performer of the weekend. Absolute mayhem.
Day 3
With many weekend warriors dancing on tired legs, The Frank and Walters got the party started again with a great set. A bittersweet day for the band as they left the stage to immediately watch their native Cork lose to Clare in the All Ireland hurling final!
Next up, Buster Bloodvessel and Bad Manners brought the noise – the rain couldn’t even hope to dampen the spirits of the punters bouncing to big brass ska anthems.
Paul Brady proved once again why he has maintained his reputation as one of Ireland’s finest musicians. A perfect set, ‘The Island’ rang out across a festival so enraptured you could have heard a pin drop.
The Human League brought out all the 80’s heads, playing their huge hits ‘Love Action’, ’Tell Me When’, ‘Electric Dreams’ and of course ‘Don’t You Want Me’. Frontman Phil Oakey brought an energy that would be impressive for a man half his age, with maybe the sharpest wardrobe of the festival.
The weekend wrapped up with the legendary Stereo MC’s bringing the dance vibes. An amazing end to a fantastic festival.
